Johnson Habitat Park Panoramic

Folks, this is huge! A family friendly playground with much to do! Johnson Habitat Park has opened in Denver as part of a huge project to beautify spaces along the South Platte River.

Located on the west side of the South Platte River near Alameda Avenue and Jason Street,Johnson-Habitat Park is a premier environmental education and play experience that includes an outdoor classroom, climbing platforms, rock sculptures, sand play and supervised camping for youth-focused nonprofit programs.  It also comprises a signature concrete jetty, stone amphitheater and fire pit along the river’s edge, as well as enhancements to the South Platte River Trail including an expanded bike path and soft surface pedestrian trail.

Denver, in partnership with the Greenway Foundation, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is helping remake Grant-Frontier, Overland, Vanderbilt and Johnson-Habitat Park into wilderness-in-the city spaces. There will also be improvements made to three miles of the South Platte trail between and extending past the parks.

We visited there and our kids did not want to leave. You can spend hours at this playground/park, pack a lunch, load up the bikes and scooters and you are guaranteed a fantastic day.

The playground is pretty good sized and offers lots of climbing opportunities.

There is also an area with huge boulders, another opportunity for fun. My boys love these!

Now get this!  That is NOT all!  There is an area filled with stumps and logs and you can build a shelter, a fort, a car, you name it!

Next up… the beach area next to the river. Great opportunity to skip some stones.

There is another learning area near the river overlook with signs placed around like this…

There is also a huge open area for picnics, sports and just hanging out. Lots of paths to ride around which is one of our favorite features. There is even a play area for tiny tots. I hear this summer they will be setting up a tubing launch area too!

We found a new favorite park!

Denver Firefighter Museum

Denver Firefighter Museum

Did you know there is a Denver Firefighters Museum downtown? It near Civic Center and is in a vintage Firehouse from days of old. Located at 13th and Tremont there is plenty of metered parking right outside their door.

Original Firehouse Doors

It is filled with vintage items, photos, engines, ladder trucks, too much to name. So much to take in. Children love the hands on exhibits. They can dress up in fireman gear and hop aboard the engine. Upstairs are interactive stations all about fire safety. There is also a vintage locker room, captains room and restroom. So fun to look at it all.

Miner’s Adventure Land at Heritage Square

Posted by metropgs | Posted in Mountains of Fun, Southwest Metro Denver Playgrounds | Posted on 18-07-2015

Miner’s is a family favorite of ours!  It will be moving next year, somewhere in the Golden area, since Heritage is closing.  We purchased a Groupon and off we went.  We always have fun up there, I used to come up here with my family when I was little too.  There is a lot to do up there. It is split up into different Amusement Parks, so keep that in mind, if you head up.  Today we went Miner’s Adventureland.

The kids started out on the Rocky Mountain Ropes, elevation course, they were challenged and liked it a lot.

My littlest loved the Water Walkers:

My middle loved the trampolines:

My oldest loved the ropes and the rock climbing wall:

This was only 1 section of Heritage Square.  Another part is the Amusement Park. They have all the typical rides, plus go-carts, paddle boats and more!  Plus the Alpine slide is historic and FUN!

Head up before they close! There are a few eateries, an ice cream, and a gallery.  There used to be so much more, so sad it is in this condition. However, that is nostalgia for us older people. The kids know it for this, so they love it.  You know what I mean?  Kind of like Casa Bonita 🙂
